Packing Tips

If you are moving house, relocating your office or just want to store some of your belongings to create more space at home, you need to ensure that your items are packed correctly and protected during transit and storage.

Cube Self Storage Packing Tips

Ensure you have the right equipment for your packing. Not only will you need boxes to pack your belongings into, but you will also need marker pens to label your boxes, bubble wrap to protect delicate items such as glasses and tape to secure each box. Tape guns are also useful and worth investing in as they will make assembling and sealing each box that much easier. If you are storing clothes, why not avoid folding and creasing your items and use wardrobe boxes instead to hang your clothes?

Cube has a range of boxes to suit your packing and storage needs.
Protect your breakable items using bubble wrap. Line boxes with bubble wrap and then wrap individual items at least twice in bubble wrap. Fill spaces in each box with packing paper to stop the items moving during transit.

Use furniture covers to protect furniture e.g. mattresses. If storing wooden or leather furniture, clean the items with furniture protection e.g. wax/leather shine to keep your furniture in good condition during storage.

Keep your furniture protected.
Dampness can cause problems for storage items. When packing, ensure each item is dry and clean to prevent dampness. At Cube Self Storage, our climate controlled units help reduce moisture.

Record what is in each box as you pack and label each box accordingly. This will enable you to find the correct box quickly should you need to retrieve something from storage.

Don't forget to label those boxes!

  1. Thanks for the information about storage units and how to pack them to get the most room out of it. My husband and I are looking to purchase a storage unit to keep our storage and things that we don't need at the time. I will have to remember the information when we start to look more seriously into it. http://thestorageshed.com/index.html

  3. My sister and her husband are moving soon and they need some help with packing. I've been trying to find some ways that we can do this in a nice organized way and these tips have some great insights. I'm going to suggest to them a self storage unit and see if that helps them out at all.

  5. Thank you for the great ideas about self storage. I really agree with the comment that you need to label your boxes. If you know whats in it you can easily asses if you need the box or not. Without labels you have to fish through box after box until you find what you are looking for. http://www.getepicstorage.com

  7. Thank you so much for providing these tips! have a lot of furniture in my garage that my wife says I need to get rid of. However, I think it would be a nice thing to keep just in case my kids need them in the future. I think it'd be a great idea to store it away from them, so that can get to it easily whenever they need it. http://www.securityselfstoragellc.com

  9. The first time that I moved I did NOT follow your last step: writing down what is in each box! This was a ridiculous headache when we were actually moving in, and wasted unnecessary amounts of hours. Don't worry, we learned our lesson and remedied that when we moved just a couple of weeks ago! Thanks for the tips!
