Successful Self Storage

Last month we posted about deciding whether self storage is the ideal solution for you (Self Storage Tips). This month, we are offering advice about how to self store effectively.

Before Storage

Effective self storage starts with effective planning. It may take time, but time spent at the beginning will save on time later on.

Sort through the items you are planning on putting into storage. Do you actually need every item? While self storage is perfect for items we want but are running out of space for, it shouldn't be used as a place to store unwanted items.

Once you have decluttered, put your items into similar groups. Once boxed, this will help the identification process once the boxes are in storage. Visit our Online Box Shop for all your box and packing material needs.

Don't overload your boxes and make them too heavy. These boxes will be weaker and could easily break during transit or upon arrival at your unit. If you need help with transporting your storage items, contact us about our Collection and Delivery Service

If storing fabric, ensure the fabric is completely dry to prevent mould. If storing furniture, clean your items with polish/wax to maintain its condition while in storage. Our Climate Controlled Units are ideal for delicate items - just ask a member of our team.

At Your Storage Unit

Before unloading your boxes, think carefully about where you are putting them. Will you need access to some of the boxes? Are some boxes heavier than others? Ensure heavier boxes are at the bottom if stacking boxes within your unit, and for ease of access, store boxes you may need regular access to at the front of your unit.

We hope you have found these tips useful. For further advice or to rent a storage unit, contact a member of our team on 2914 2200 or via our Online Contact Form

  1. Are there any storage units that are big enough for a boat? It isn't that big, but it does take quite a bit of space around the driveway and garage area. We won't be needing it for the winter so I want to put it in storage. http://www.costlessstorage.com/

  2. Yeah guys! That is the destination of my long search. Actually I want to introduce myself about how to collect & deliver storage items safely, at the end of storage units. Do furniture storage in Glen Waverley provides reasonable priced storing services?

  3. I think it is important to box and label your boxes so everything stays nice and neat. The labeling will help your find what you are looking for if you ever have to take things out of storage. I think you shouldn't have a problem with storage if you keep things organized this way.

  4. I agree, it's important to plan what you're going to put into your storage unit is very important. It seems just as important to also plan how you're going to organize it before hand. It seems like it would be very helpful to draw up a diagram of what's going to go where and keep it somewhere in sight when you go to your storage unit, so that you can know exactly where certain items are without wasting time.
